On 29 October 2007, François Bertière, Chairman and CEO of Bouygues Immobilier, laid the foundation stone for the company's future headquarters, Galeo, in the presence of André Santini, French secretary of state for the civil service and mayor of Issy-les-Moulineaux.
Located between Rue Bara, Rue Camille Desmoulins and Boulevard Gallieni, this 6,000-sq.-metre building designed by Christian de Portzamparc – winner of the Pritzker Prize for architecture – marks the entrance to the town of Issy-les-Moulineaux, located just outside Paris. The oval-shaped building has a second skin to maintain optimum thermal comfort and confer exceptional brightness. An eight-storey façade will stand behind this glass "shell" studded with scales which will be lit at night with an ultra low power consumption system.
Together with the entire Seine Ouest business district, the building – due to host 200 Bouygues Immobilier employees – will showcase the company's know-how, reflect its values and convey its passion for architecture and innovation. It will provide staff with a place for exchange of ideas and mobile telecommunications technology to easily accommodate teams on assignment from outside Paris and Europe.
The building will comply with High Environmental Quality (HQE®) standards with an ambitious "very high" rating for five targets. CO2 emissions will be low (15kg/sq. metre/year) and will be controlled by sensors in meeting rooms. Solar panels will provide domestic hot water for the staff restaurant. The air conditioning system, using chilled beams, and the lighting will be adjusted automatically depending on the weather outside via temperature/humidity sensors connected to the building management system. Furthermore, the building will feature an eco-roof. It will also be fitted out with eco-friendly materials and the office furniture will be eco-designed.
Spanish investor Naropa Properties S.L. acquired the building in June 2007.
