International ideas competition

International competition on "town planning and sustainable development"

Eleven teams were shortlisted for their innovative ideas in the following areas:


- Regional image: this is the theme for which the team made up of Bouygues Immobilier/Unibail/town planner XDGA Xaveer de Geyter /urban architects TVK Trévelo Viger Kohler /transport firm Systra BET/consultant JC Croizé and communications agency A Vrai Dire La Ville was selected
- Scientific and economic project
- Better use of resources and the natural heritage
- Quality of life and built form.


Our response :
The entire 39,000 hectares of the OIN (government planning scheme) will make up the economic and scientific cluster.

Town planning:
- Increase the density of the existing urban fringes.
- Create a focus on the start-up of the cluster, with a 1 million-sq.-metre area around Christ de Saclay by 2015. This will pave the way for another growth-driven 30 million sq. metres over the following 30 years.

International showcase for innovation:
- Contribute to research and innovation in the fields of work, the natural habitat and ecology: the OIN is a stage on a global scale.
- Be part of a virtual community specific to the OIN.

Responsible development:
- Set up mixed-use programmes: 24/7 operation based on a mix of work, leisure, shopping and housing functions.
- Create new districts producing their own renewable energy. Target: an carbon footprint of less than 3.

Soft travel:
- The OIN in 20 minutes: international airport /tram-train/car-sharing/cycle links.


Green heritage:
- Include farmland and the wooded fringes of the Plateau de Saclay in the overall energy plan
- Adopt an archipelago configuration for development
