The arrival of spring is bringing a breath of fresh air into interiors. With this season’s explosion of bright colours, fluorescents and geometric patterns, multicoloured interiors are back with a bang!
Interiors: spring opens our eyes to colour! - 22 May 2008
2008: the year of yellow
Whether lemon, saffron, gold, honey, sun, mimosa, banana or straw, yellow is centre-stage this spring, reviving interiors, driving out winter gloom and brightening up your daily life. Ideal for a dark corridor, yellow creates the impression of space and light. Being a warm colour, it also does a great job in communal areas like kitchens and living rooms. Our advice is to use it sparingly. The last time a 100% yellow interior was trendy was the 1970s!
The sun isn’t alone in penetrating your home interiors
Yellow is also being seen in the company of other flashy colours to signal something of a return to the 1980s. Vivid red, grass green, bright pink, psychedelic purple, vibrant orange and electric blue… it certainly looks like the end for dull, monochrome interiors! Shameless colour is back on household walls, but it’s up to you to decide what’s fun and what’s just too much!
Why so many colours?
French people like their homes to be reassuring and to say something about themselves. A bright, colourful home can be like an anti-stress remedy. From sofas to walls, crockery and furniture, take the plunge and celebrate the return of the sun with bright colours... there’s nothing like it to put the smile back on your face!
