Effective thermal insulation can significantly reduce the energy consumption of your home. Insulation isn’t just about the roof and windows, but also the walls and floors!
New homes meet all the latest standards and regulations, and therefore have excellent insulation levels. In fact in new homes, energy losses are minimal… especially if you take a few simple steps: turn off the heating if you have the windows open, and don’t leave doors open unnecessarily.
Setting the right temperature
According to French building regulations, the ideal temperature for an occupied dwelling is 19°C!
You’re also likely to sleep better if you reduce the temperature in your bedroom slightly at night, to 16 or 17 °C.
Don’t turn off the heating when you leave the house to go to work or go away for the weekend! Just reduce it a little… to 16°C, for example. That way you’ll use less energy, because you won’t need to heat your home up from cold when you return.
The best way to do this is to fit a programmable control system. The controller will reduce the temperature at night or when you’re out, and increase it again when you get up or come home.
You can also take direct measures simply and immediately: close the shutters, windows and curtains at night to reduce heat loss.
Lowering the temperature of your home by 1°C reduces your energy consumption by 7%... and your energy bill too!
And if you decide to fit a programmable thermostatic system to control the temperature of your home, you can look forward to saving between 5% and 8% on your energy bills.
It’s up to you!
