With a rate of 0% (excluding insurance), the PTZ is the cheapest loan available to fund the purchase of your own home.
The PTZ was amended in 2009 to introduce a number of more attractive features, including:

  • the doubling of the loan amount for new-build purchases
  • higher loans for homes meeting the most demanding energy performance standards 
  • a longer repayment period

  • Until the end of June 2010, the amount of PTZ available for a new-build home is double that for 2008, as was the case in 2009.
  • From 1 July to 31 December, the increase will be reduced to just 50% of the 2008 level.

The loan repayment period has been extended to 30 years, subject to conditions

PTZ repayments are scheduled over a period of between 9 and 26 years, depending on your income, the loan repayment method and the geographical location of your home.
The repayment period may be extended to 30 years for developments receiving local social property access support (a subsidy or subsidised loan paid by the local authority).

Higher loans for homes meeting the BBC (Low-Energy Building) standard

Exclusive to homes in urban areas awarded the BBC 2005 label by an accredited certification body, this increase is:

  • €15,000 for households of 3 people or fewer
  • €20,000 for households of 4 people or more
